Snow Day in Seattle

Jasper had his first taste of snow...

And had a chance to see what older kids do on snow days.

We bundled up and headed to the grocery store on foot. I wanted Jasper to have a chance to take in the winter wonderland. He was given the cutest bear paw mittens and fleece boots!  It was a memorable January day.

Can't believe it's been nine months already!

Jasper has been loving bath time. Over the holidays, we put him in the tub for the first time and he had a blast. No more sink for this guy!

It's a New Year

I remember going to sleep early last New Year's eve, we had returned from a trip to Michigan and I was one tired pregnant woman. Someone in our neighborhood let off fireworks at midnight and as I woke up at that moment, I quietly welcomed my baby to his year.

And now we say farewell to 2011. How fast the year has gone by.

I get the impression that Jasper has resolved to party more in 2012. Here he is with one of his favorite toys, our boombox:

He had a great Christmas and received many wonderful gifts.

Like last year, we had recently returned from a trip to Michigan. Jack and I spent the day cleaning, relaxing, and trying to get used to Pacific time again. Jasper played and napped and made us laugh, nothing new for him.

Meal planning and grocery shopping were on my agenda and I had it in my head that I should roast a chicken. We were going to have a low key New Year's, but I wanted to make it a little special and roasting something sounded just right. I hopped on Pinterest to search for a recipe. (If you haven't discovered Pinterest, you should take a look. Be careful though, it's addicting.) I found a simple recipe that only uses the thigh and leg pieces and includes vegetables. This fit the bill, I'd use one pan and we wouldn't have to worry about carving a bird. I picked up some brie and decent bread, we had a bottle of wine left over from Christmas; the plan was coming together.

This meal was SO delicious! It makes me want to roast more often. It also makes me want to use leeks more often.  And another often, I should read this recipe author's blog often.

Jack plated everything up as I put Jasper down for the night. Jack and I finished watching the first season of "the Good Wife" on DVD. It was niiiice.

The baby didn't fall asleep right away, he was very chatty for about 20 minutes before konking out.We checked him on the baby monitor as he wound down. Before long, he looked like a little superhero in dreamland.

8 Months Old

Wow, another month has passed already. Yesterday Jasper tuned 8 months old. I felt lucky to have some sunshine coming through the front window and we took advantage with a little photo shoot.

It looks like this little guy will be crawling before long.

A few highlights from Thanksgiving. Hanging out with cousin Debbi.

Jasper has peas, butternut squash, and of course, Cherrios for his Thanksgiving dinner.

Today Jasper and his dad are heading to a Casper Babypants concert. We are all big fans and I can't wait to hear how it goes. He'll be joined by his buddy Brecken and her parents. I'm going to get some knitting time in with Grandma Karen and her friend.

Jasper turned 7 months old!

Jasper is sitting on a super soft blanket his crafty Great Aunt Laura made for him. He loves it! She also knitted an adorable hat with ear flaps. It has started to fit just in time for the cold weather that has come our way.

And we have some highlights from the grandparents' visit. Grandma B introduced Jasper to Cheerios. Every time she fed Jasper she rolled up his little sleeves - that had never occurred to me. I try to remember that at feeding time now. It's the little things.

Jasper made it to three houses before he was too tired to continue. It was a good first Halloween.

A Difficult Anniversary, an Inspiring Story...

I just read the CNN article; "Remembering 9/11: A warrior's unexpected gift to America". It made me feel very proud of the opportunities our country can offer someone with so little. More importantly, I feel comforted and touched by a gesture made by a Kenyan tribe thousands of miles away. I hope this story brings comfort to others on this day.

I thought I should add Jasper's official 4 month picture. I ended up taking it on the 9th, the day after we returned from Michigan. Here he is with his trendy Sophie giraffe. He's a little more coordinated these days and gnaws on her all the time. I love his hair-do.

Michigan Trip and a Four Month Birthday

I can't believe it's been a month since we have posted pictures of Jasper. Perhaps it's the adjustment to working part time from home. I put in a few weeks and then WHOOSH, we found ourselves in Michigan for a summer vacation. We have been introducing our baby to many friends and family. Here are some highlights:

Good morning citizens!

I thought I'd update you on some current changes to our online photo and video sharing.

Videos: I recently realized Flickr has a 1 minute 30 second limit on videos uploaded to their site, so unbeknownst to us, Flickr has been clipping anything after the 1:30 mark. Unfortunately, I found this out long after we'd uploaded a whopping 40 videos.

We now have a YouTube channel where we'll be uploading videos from here on out.You'll notice there is now a link over there on the right.

Photos: All you really need to know is that we're moving all of our online photos from Flickr to Picasa (soon to be known simply as Google Photos). The link to the right has been updated to navigate to the correct site. Note: It will take me some time to fully migrate all of our photo albums over.

Why the switch? Many reasons, really, but it all started with Google+ (G+) showing up on the scene. For those who don't already know, G+ is Google's latest attempt at getting into the social networking scene and this time it appears as though it's going to work out quite well for them. In a nutshell, G+ is a lot like Facebook, but seems to be a better tool for the individual (sorry folks, no Farmville). Oh, and if you have a G+ profile all photo uploads under 2048 x 2048 pixels are free. We've been paying $25 per year on Flickr.

Since I already have my email, calendars, this blog, and my web reader on Google, and since YouTube is now owned by Google, it only made sense to move my photos under the Google umbrella. And with the Picasa photo editor and organizer, I can easily and automatically sync our photos between our computer, our online albums, and my G+ profile. Voila!
